Litvin: Russia not to influence Ukrainian parliamentary elections


Vladimir Litvin Chairman of Verkhovna Rada stated that Russia is interested in normal development of Ukrainian state that is why does not intend to interfere in its interior affairs. He stated in the press conference on the results of his working visit to Moscow.

The Speaker stated that Ukraine must prove to its neighbors and partners that it is a civilized state. "In that case any elections results will be the choice of Ukrainian people and will be taken into account by our strategic partners and our neighbors as well. The destiny of elections is the deed of Ukrainian people. There is a real basis for influence of the USA or Russia on elections in Ukraine," added he.

In response to the question whether Litvins party (People's Party) would be backed by Russia, he answered that they had not discussed this issue, but added that there are definite sympathy from the side of Russia.

"The definite sympathy may be and it obviously exists. But I think that politicians is politicians or even state authorities and they have to keep sympathies about themselves," mentioned Litvin.   

"Russia is primary interested in the balance of political forces, the structure of parliament, the attitude of Ukrainian politicians toward existed legislative base an issues which are now under discussion, for example, the review of electoral system of Ukraine," said Litvin commenting on Russian position during the coming elections in Ukraine.

We remind that on Monday Ukrainian Chairman visited Moscow and met Vladimir Putin President of Russia and Sergey Mironov the Speaker of Russian Parliament.
