Ukraine President and Germany PM held meeting

Victor Yushchenko met with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The President said he appreciated “strategically important” Ukrainian-German relations. In his turn, Mr. Steinmeier remarked that Germany “like no other country” wanted Ukraine to succeed and was looking forward to the March 26 vote in our country, the President press service reported.

Then the sides discussed bilateral cooperation and Ukraine’s ambition to integrate into the EU. The Head of State reiterated that “European integration is Ukraine’s principle and choice that corresponds to its national interests.” The minister assured him that Germany supported our country’s bid to join the EU and pledged to help.

They also agreed that Ukraine and Germany would continue to hold intergovernmental consultations.
