US Ambassador to Ukraine denies delivery of Bush's congratulation to Yanukovich

STATEMENT BY U.S. AMBASSADOR JOHN E. HERBST REGARDING THE VISIT OF DEPUTY NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR CROUCH

Assistant to President Bush and Deputy National Security Advisor Dr. J.D. Crouch presented a letter from President Bush to President Yushchenko during his visit to Kiev April 19. There were no other letters or personal messages from President Bush conveyed during the visit.

In all his meetings, Dr. Crouch congratulated the various parties on their showing in the recent parliamentary elections and in particular the Ukrainian people for conducting free and fair elections.

The United States government is prepared to work with whatever government emerges from the on-going coalition discussions and has no favored outcome other than a continued commitment to democratic and market economy principles.
