Ukraine President promotes NATO entry

Ukraine’s entry into NATO depends on national priorities, Victor Yushchenko has told a press conference in Berlin, president's press office .

“We should find compromises in society to feel this is our national priority, not some speculation,” he said.

The President reminded reporters NATO membership was stipulated by Ukrainian laws and “is one of the fundamentals of our foreign policy.”

He said political misunderstandings on the issue were not about the member status but about how the country will join the alliance. Ukraine’s cooperation with NATO is developing, he said. Mr. Yushchenko added a membership action plan would be the closest step on our country’s Euro-Atlantic path.
