President remembers Kruty heroes


President Viktor Yushchenko took part in flower laying ceremony near memorial sign honouring Kruty heroes near Askold's tomb, according to president's press office.

 
Along with President Speaker Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Vice Prime Minister Olexandr Turchynov, Kyiv Regional Administration Chairman Vira Ulyanchenko, ministers, Verkhovna Rada deputies and other officials were also present at the ceremony.

Askold’s tomb is a historic place on Kyiv’s hills.  Askold, Kyiv’s Prince, was buried there in 882. Since 1786 there was a graveyard – a burial place of many prominent public figures, scientists and cultural workers. On March 1918, a number of young people killed in the battle of Kruty were solemnly buried at this place.
