President criticized Internal Ministry


President Viktor Yushchenko took part yesterday in Ministry of Internal Affairs board meeting. President's press office reports.

In his address to those present President heavily criticized Ministry’s work. He pointed to inability of the Ministry to effectively fight corruption and guarantee the principle of equality of all citizens before the law. Regarding that V. Yushchenko reminded of Speaker Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s information about impudent behavior of some road police officials, and requested that head of Department of Automobile Inspection, chief of the special road police unit “Cobra” and his deputy resigned from their positions.

President also pointed to inadequateness of Ministry’s efforts aimed at bringing order to road traffic. According to his information, not all regional Automobile Inspection offices worked hard enough on safeness of road traffic. V. Yushchenko criticized Kyiv, Kirovograd, Mykolayiv, Volyn, Poltava, Sumy, and Chernihiv regional road police offices for inability to keep back further increasing death-rates on the road.

President also recommended implementation of stricter road traffic regulations especially towards those drivers who are driving under influence of alcohol. “These are criminals; value of a human life may not be ignored in such manner,” he added.

Another problem of road police named by V. Yushchenko is selective approach to drivers.

The participants of the meeting were Internal Minister Y. Lutsenko, Prosecutor General O. Medvedko, acting Security Service Head V. Nalyvaichenko, Customs Service Head M. Lytvyn, and Health Minister V. Knyazevych.
