Ukraine considers Kazakhstan a firm partner


“Our relations are developing well and we are fully satisfied with the dynamics of their development on political, trade, business and investment directions,” President Viktor Yushchenko said during joint press conference with President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, which followed the Ukrainian-Kazakh talks in extended format, president's press office reported.

Speaking about perspectives of cooperation development President Yushchenko named several promising directions. First of all he mentioned cooperation in energy field, especially implementation of energy sector related provisions of Ukraine-Kazakhstan 2007-2008 Action Plan.

Yushchenko also informed that during the talks sides discussed common peaceful space exploration projects and agreed to establish bilateral program of Ukrainian-Kazakh cooperation in that field for 2008-2009.

Sides discussed cooperation between the countries in aviation, military and nuclear energy fields as well. Regarding that President Yushchenko informed that the sides had reaffirmed contracts on 7 AN-148 planes purchase.

Separately Victor Yushchenko pointed to Ukrainian side’s interest in attracting Kazakh businesses to work on Ukrainian markets. In this regard he mentioned importance of joint energy projects.

Humanitarian cooperation received according to President Yushchenko much attention during the talks as well. Here V. Yushchenko expressed gratitude to N. Nazarbayev for supporting Ukrainian community in Kazakhstan.

Summarizing his address President Yushchenko expressed expectancies that holding a Year of Ukraine in Kazakhstan would boost further deepening of bilateral cooperation between the countries. “It is a project of rapprochement on multiple directions,” he said.
