Yushchenko: Ukraine’s integration to NATO has no threats

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko states that possible Ukraine’s joining NATO Membership Action Plan has no threats to any countries, including Russia. The head of the Ukrainian State stated in his speech in the Royal Institute of International Affairs in the Great Britain.

According to the President of Ukraine, Ukraine’s integration to NATO answers Ukraine’s national interests. According to him, “we do not have a task how to cross a road for Russia or other country”. “We form own idea of security policy,” Yushchenko said. “Our integration to NATO is not a policy against Russia,” Yushchenko emphasized.

At the same time he noted that often there are reproaches in address of Ukraine that foreign bases will be placed on the territory of Ukraine after it’s joining NATO. Viktor Yushchenko said that the Ukrainian Constitution forbids placement of foreign bases on its territory. He also reminded that according to the Constitution, the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation will be based on the territory of Ukraine until 2017.
