NBU fixed hryvnia for the second half of the year


The official rate for hryvnia at the second half of 2008 will be 4.85 hrn/$1, with the fluctuation at 4%, according to the decision of the NBU council, made on Friday, said NBU council head Petro Poroshenko.
 
As reported earlier, after NBU refused to buy out the surplus offer for dollar this year, the interbank rate for hryvnia increased up to 4.50-4.55 hrn/$1. Then, since May 22, NBU increased the official rate for hryvnias by 4% - from 5.05hrn/$1 to 4.85hrn/$1. NBU council demanded the rate for hryvnia back to limits fixed before for 2008 – 4.95 -5.25hrn/1$. But the heading of the National bank confirmed its decision, as Interfax-Ukraine reports.
 
At the moment, the official rate for hryvnia is 4.8498hrn/1$, while the real rate on the interbank market   –   about 4.57hrn/1$. Periodically, the National bank buys out the currency at the rate 4.75hrn/$1 or 4.80hrn/$1 and thus gets severe criticism from the President for this policy of multitude rates
