Government proposes to fix minimal purchasing price of milk and will prevent monopolistic schemes in dairy market

The Government of Ukraine to take measures aimed at preventing monopolistic schemes in dairy market. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko disclosed in the course of the National Meeting on cattle breeding issues, Cabinet's press office reported.

“It is necessary to consider the work of those enterprises which purchase milk and see what levers the state can use,” she said.

The Head of Government noted that practically all regions face the problem of monopolizing the dairy market. At that Yulia Tymoshenko stressed that Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine which had to take preventive measures, does not pursue such work because the AMC head is not appointed for quite a long time and suggestions concerning his/her appointment are still in the Verkhovna Rada.

According to the Head of Government, it is also necessary to enable the mechanism of minimal purchasing price of milk. “If the milk is purchased at the price lower than the minimal price, all levers are to be introduced,” Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized.

The Premier proposed to attract representatives of dairy producers associations to discuss this issue.
