The ban imposed on foreign
TV channels unadapted to the Ukrainian legislation is not connected with either
the content or language of TV shows. Press office of Our Ukraine distributed
the statement of the chairman of the National council of Ukraine and TV and radio broadcast
Shevchenko.
Shevchenko underlined that
the council demands the observation of the laws on the authors’ rights, on
advertisement, on consumers’ rights, on TV and radio broadcast.
“Many politicians speculate
on this question and declare that the actions of the National council concern
the violation of the freedom of speech. But the matter concerns economy and
interests of consumers,” he said.
As an example Shevchenko
cited an episode with “Euorvision” broadcast, which was made by a foreign channel,
which does not have any broadcasting rights in Ukraine.
“As for advertisement, the
Ukrainian legislation provides for broadcast of the ads paid on the territory of Ukraine only,” Shevchenko added.
As a reminder, the National
council of Ukraine and TV and radio broadcast obliged
the providers to stop the rebroadcast of foreign TV channels, which are not
adapted to the Ukrainian legislation. The decision was made and came into force
on October 1, 2008.
