Parliament still legitimate and can work - deputy Speaker

Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mykola Tomenko believes the fact that today’s plenary session of Verkhovna Rada was opened and closed confirms legitimacy of parliament of the VI convocation.

He said this in an interview to journalists today.

“The fact of official opening and closing of the Verkhovna Rada plenary session on October 10, after the President’s decree [on dissolution] was published, means that Ukraine still has a legitimate parliament”, M.Tomenko said.

He pointed out that very many advisors of the President, as well as a number of other politicians, who would like to live in Ukraine without parliament, used to claim that, after the decree would be published, the parliament would not be able to carry out sessions and make decisions.

According to him, the parliament works in line with Paragraph 1, Article 90, of the Constitution, and will terminate its authorities since the first day of work of the new-elected Verkhovna Rada of VII convocation.
