Vice Speaker Oleksandr Lavrynovych (elected on the Regions Party's
election list) has said that the dismissal of the National Bank of
Ukraine's top management is not within the competence of the Ukrainian
parliament, Interfax-Ukraine reported.
"We currently have no grounds to consider this
question at all, because it is outside the competence of the Verkhovna
Rada of Ukraine. Today we will hold a long debate, take some decisions,
and then we'll say that the Verkhovna Rada and its decisions are being
ignored," he said at the parliament's extraordinary meeting on Monday.
Lavrynovych
said that the parliament could have considered this question at its
special meeting after amending the law on the National Bank of Ukraine
and ensuring this law comes into force.
"This discussion will only result in bringing more problems for the stability of the national currency," he said.
